Tahuna Pod Hostel is a fun place to be, where our accommodation is a destination in itself and customer service is paramount & we're currently seeking to hire a Hostel Manager & Marketing Manager

Job Title: Hostel Manager & Digital Marketing Manager
Reports to: General Manager
Direct Reports: All hostel staff

Purpose of Position
The hostel manager is responsible for the overall success of the hostel, managing all aspects of the business, in order to drive sales and reduce expenses. The hostel manager will be set a yearly budget by head office and will be expected to meet sales and net profit targets. This role also has a strong focus on digital marketing.

Hostel Manager Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership
  • Ensure all employees perform in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures and industry standards.
  • Monitor team performance and conduct performance reviews at employee contract renewals.
  • Ensure that staff contracts are managed in an accurate and timely manner. 
  • Sign off on weekly rosters, designed by the assistant manager.
  • Identify individual staff talent and nurture personal growth, in order to yield the best results from all employees. 
  • Create work and development plans for employees.
  • Ensure all new members of staff are fully-trained and have signed off on all relevant training, prior to commencing employment. Training will include manual, handling, fire and chemical training. 
Customer Service
  • Abide by the company’s customer service policy.
  • Meet and exceed guest satisfaction, using the extra mile initiative budget as required.
Building and Operations Management
  • Maintain a high standard for all of the hostel’s facilities and grounds, in accordance with the company’s building operations manual.
  • Maintain the working order of company assets and facilities, ensuring all utensils are stocked and well-maintained, in accordance with the company’s building operations manual.
  • Create and regularly update an asset register, informing the general manager of all upcoming replacements of assets, so that purchases can be predicted and included in all future budgets.
  • Adhere to the company’s waste management policy. 
  • Adhere to the company’s health and safety and legal compliance policies.
  • Ensure the highest standards for cleanliness, in accordance with the company’s cleaning manual.
  • Perform regular maintenance reviews, to be included in your weekly manager’s report.
  • Create an ongoing plan for renovations and large-scale projects.
  • Oversee all future renovation projects, to ensure completion is on time and within budget. 
  • Work alongside the assistant hostel manager to develop, organise and execute activities and special events.
  • Create a SWOT analysis for all events. 
Personnel Management
  • Advertise, interview and recruit all future employment for the hostel.
  • Cover all staff shortages that may arise from unforeseen circumstances.
  • Manage any contractors required.
Front Desk
  • Account for all cash-handling.
  • Perform all necessary reception and back-office administration.
  • Work behind reception at least one day a week.
Financial Management
  • Maintain the debtor system by ensuring all invoices, vouchers and reports are submitted in an accurate manner to Finance and Operations Manager.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to get the best price for products.
  • Work to a set budget and monitor expenses.
  • Push bed and activity sales to meet and exceed the budget.
  • Create / review pricing structure for beds prices monthly and submit to the finance and operations manager for approval.

Policies and Procedures

  • Ensure staff knowledge and compliance with overall company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
  • Send monthly reports to the general manager, using the template set by head office.
Interactions and Development
  • Attend quarterly meetings, which may require travelling to another city.
  • Attend training sessions and provide training for others as required.

Digital Marketing Manager Key Responsibilities:

Overall Marketing
  • Consistently striving to meet and exceed all activity sales targets set by senior management.
  • Create a conversion strategy to increase direct bookings.
  • Create growth and engagement strategies and special promotions to increase occupancy, whilst in-keeping with the budget.
  • Compiling regular reports for the general manager to show ROI.
  • Monitor, listen and respond to guest reviews on all review channels, such as TripAdvisor, Booking.Com, Hostelworld and Campermate.
  • Cross-promotion of the Sir Cedrics group during all hostel check-ins.
  • Write a monthly customer profile, using resources available.
  • Create a monthly competitors’ analysis.
Content Marketing
  • Content creation for all digital and print collateral marketing, whilst adhering to brand guidelines.
  • Create, curate and manage all published content, including images, videos and written communication.
  • Content management of the hostel’s website, to ensure all content and promotions are up-to-date.
  • Ensuring all photography is up-to-date and organising the re-shooting of all future photography.
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Manage all social media marketing to increase sales and brand awareness.
  • Regularly update all of the hostel’s existing social platforms and create a monthly social media content plan.
  • Expand the hostel’s social media presence.
  • Monitor and respond to all users. 
  • Develop brand awareness and online reputation.
  • Develop and expand the hostel’s online community and engagement.
SEO Marketing
  • Optimise copy and landing pages for search engine optimisation.
  • Report and analyse website analytics.
  • Perform ongoing keyword research analysis to ensure the expansion of keyword opportunities.
  • Research and implement content recommendations for organic search success.
  • Ensure SEO best practices are properly implemented.
  • Recommend any necessary changes to website architecture to improve organic search rankings.
  • Research and recommend any future PPC campaign strategies.
  • Email Marketing
  • Create and implement an email marketing strategy.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Experience of managing a hostel and a team of employees.
  • Ideally, you will be educated to degree level, with proven experience of 
  • digital marketing for business purposes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
