Tahuna Pod Hostel Terms and Conditions

We reserve the right to change these booking terms and conditions at any time and without notice. Any future reservations or bookings you make will be made subject to the terms and conditions which apply at the time a booking is made and you are advised to read all terms and conditions carefully on each occasion prior to making a booking.

Group Bookings

Any of our hostel rooms can be reserved exclusively for groups, subject to availability. The number of guests must not exceed the number of beds in the room. This policy will be strictly enforced. If more guests are present than the beds allow, additional booking fees will be charged if extra beds within the hostel are available. If no beds are available, the extra guests will be asked to leave the hostel.

If a group booking for over 8 guests is required, you must contact the hostel directly. Online reservations can only accommodate up to a maximum of 8 guests.

Hen & Stag parties

To maintain a calm, respectful and inclusive atmosphere for hostel guests we do not allow hen and stag parties at the hostel. If a group checks in that appears to be a stag or hen party, we reserve the right to cancel the booking without refund.

Minimum Age Requirement

To ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all guests, Tahuna Pod Hostel has a strict 18+ policy. We do not accommodate anyone under 18, with no exceptions. All guests must provide valid ID at check-in to confirm their age. Failure to do so will result in denial of stay, and our cancellation/no-show policies will apply.

Accepted Credit Cards & Fees

We accept VISA, Mastercard, and Amex credit cards, as well as contactless PayWave payments, all of which incur a 2% surcharge. EFTPOS cards do not have a surcharge. Please note, we are a cash-free facility.

Luggage storage

Guests may leave their luggage in our luggage room located next to the lounge on level 1 however it remains the guest's responsibility to ensure that their personal belongings are secure at all times. Tahuna Pod Hostel accepts no liability for the loss, theft or damage to property however sustained or caused.

Payment for direct bookings

Payment for your booking is required in full at the time of booking. You agree to make payment via a debit to your nominated credit card. The amount debited will be the amount shown in New Zealand Dollars (inclusive of New Zealand Goods and Services Tax at 15%) on the booking page prior to you clicking "Make Payment" on that page and will be charged to your credit card at this amount shown or converted to your local currency by your credit card company. Depending upon the currency of the booking, your credit card's currency and the country in which your card was issued, your credit card provider may impose foreign exchange fees and other fees, in accordance with your arrangements with that credit card provider. We are not responsible for currency conversion or any fees imposed by your credit card provider and any questions relating to such matters should be directed to them.

All guests will be required to provide a credit card at hostel check-in to cover incidental charges.

You will also be required to present photo ID on arrival at the hostel. Valid photo identification that will be accepted is a passport, NZ drivers’ license, Kiwi Access Card (or HANZ card) and European Identity cards. Student IDs or foreign driving licenses will not be accepted as valid. Identification must not be expired and copies will not be accepted.

Cancellation policy

You must notify us as soon as possible and in writing of any cancellations. Cancellations of reservations made on standard rates notified to us within 2 Days (48 Hours) of the arrival will forfeit 100% of the total price paid.  Cancellations made 48 hours prior to check-in will receive a full refund.

If you have booked a non refundable rate, please note any cancellations or no shows will be charged in full and will not receive a refund. You may reschedule your stay for the same or higher price, subject to availability. You’ll only be charged extra if there’s a price difference between your new and old dates.

If you have booked a room through a third party online travel agent (such as Booking.com, Expedia and Hostelworld.com), any cancellations or modifications must be made directly through that platform.

No shows

In the case of a guest ‘no show’, the full amount of the booking will be charged to the credit card provided at the time of booking. The booking will be cancelled in its entirety at 0900 NZT on the morning after the reservation’s set arrival date. 

Cancellations made after (Check-in time) on the date of check-in will be processed as a ‘no show’ as above.

Check in and check out times

Check-in begins at 2pm, although our reception is open from 7am to 9pm. New arrivals are welcome any time after 10am. While pods won’t be ready until 2pm, we offer secure luggage storage until your pod is available. Check-out is at 10am, but we’re happy to store your luggage in our locker room free of charge, and you’re welcome to use our facilities throughout the day. Late check-out is subject to availability, must be arranged in advance, and may incur additional charges.

Cleaning and Damages to the premises

Guests are responsible for any cleaning/damage to the premises or loss/damage to items and must cover the cost of repair or replacement. A minimum fee of $150 will be charged for damages, with additional costs applied as needed, including lost revenue for rooms made unusable. This also applies to excessive cleaning required due to misuse of the room or premises.

Disabled Guests

Guests with special requirements related to a disability are encouraged to inform the hostel's management team prior to their arrival. Please note that only select rooms are wheelchair accessible. To ensure we can accommodate your needs, please contact the hostel directly before making a reservation to discuss the available options.

Social Code

For a peaceful stay for all, Tahuna Pod Hostel kindly asks that you respect quiet hours between 10pm and 8am. Please keep noise to a minimum during this time. If we receive a noise complaint, it will serve as a first warning. Repeated disturbances may result in being asked to leave and your reservation being cancelled.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises; this includes on balconies and external areas. This also includes the usage of electronic cigarettes, vapes, candles, incense sticks or any other device emitting fumes by the combustion of any material or substance.

Alcohol on the premises

Please note that alcohol consumption is not allowed after 10pm in rooms or common areas, including balconies. Drunken behaviour will not be tolerated, and intoxicated guests will be asked to leave. Alcohol consumption is always at the discretion of Tahuna Pod Hostel staff.

Drug use

The possession and use of illegal drugs are not permitted on our site and if discovered will result in immediate eviction without a refund.

Pets

Assistance dogs, such as guide dogs, hearing dogs, and dogs for those who are disabled, are permitted. Otherwise, we uphold a strict no pets policy.

Fire alarm activation 

If the fire alarm is activated intentionally or unnecessarily, or due to smoking/vaping or prohibited electrical devices, the person responsible will be billed for the cost of the fire service response. The Tahuna Pod Hostel fire system is directly linked to the Fire Service, which will respond whenever the alarms are triggered.

Lost property

If you leave an item behind during your stay, please email Tahuna Pod Hostel with a detailed description of the item, its location, and the date it was forgotten. We will make every effort to locate it and address your request within 48 hours, though we cannot guarantee recovery. We will inform you within 48 hours if the item is found; if so, you can arrange pickup, or we can send it to you at your expense. Tahuna Pod Hostel is not responsible for lost or forgotten items and cannot guarantee they will be found. Any found items will be recorded and kept for 90 days.

Christmas Bookings

All bookings between 24th December and 26th December are considered Christmas Bookings. A minimum stay of 3 nights is required, including the 25th and 26th December, with check-in on or before the 24th and check-out on or after the 27th. We do not allow check-ins or check-outs on the 25th or 26th, but you may book and pay for the extra dates if you wish to leave early.

All bookings during this period are non-refundable. 

New Years Eve Bookings

All bookings from 30th December to 2nd January are considered New Year's Eve Bookings. A minimum stay of 4 nights is required, including New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, with check-in on or before 31st December and check-out after 2nd January. Check-ins and check-outs are not available on the 1st and 2nd January, but you may book extra dates and leave early if desired.

Please note, we are a dry hostel during this period. No alcohol is allowed on the premises from 30/12/24 to 01/01/25. Violating this policy will result in immediate removal without a refund.
